Participatory democracy - Erasmus+ 2016

"Participatory Democracy" - a project funded by the Erasmus+ program was a response to the problem of the low level of knowledge of young people about the possibilities of political participation. The Foundation organized a game about the budget, debates and meetings of young people with decision-makers and experts in the field of civic budgeting, which resulted, among other things, in the development of common solutions by students and decision-makers, as well as the implementation of some of the ideas provided by young people.

The participants of the project were 250 high school students in the Silesian province aged 16-19.  The choice of such an age range among the participants of the project was related to the subject of the task - the main activity was to carry out a simulation of the civic budget (in the Budget Game formula), in which one can vote from the age of 16.

Project goal

The project was intended to increase young people's involvement in public life and increase youth empowerment. The meetings were also intended to lead to the improvement of the situation of young people with fewer opportunities. The main activity was to conduct a simulation of the civic/participatory budget - the Budget Game, thanks to which young people had the opportunity to gain knowledge of civic budgeting, team building and the art of self-presentation. The results of the activity include: increasing the level of knowledge of young people on how to carry out a civic/participatory budget, construct and submit applications, learning about the opportunities, but also the limitations, of working with public institutions. Participants also learned the importance of teamwork.
