Silesian legends have extraordinary appeal and are a pillar of today's habits and traditions.
They are slowly being forgotten, unfortunately. The project "Gryfne beboki i gdzie je znaleźć ?" is meant to educate the public about the region, to build and strengthen local and regional identity, as well as a sense of pride in the legacy of Silesian culture.
It shows how unexplained stories were dealt with in the past and how children were warned of danger. Under the "Legends" tab on the project website, you can learn about 5 interesting Silesian monsters..
Our project included:
- An educational game/interactive walking tour of Mikołów;
- Storytelling lesson scenarios for teachers and educators;
- promotional videos;
- A website collecting all the results.
In addition, the Mikołów Museum hosted workshops for children from elementary schools, a competition and an exhibition of children's works. The project "Gryfne beboki i gdzie je znaleźć?" was co-financed by funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the Program of the National Cultural Center: EtnoPolska. 2022.

Workshops in the Mikołów museum
We carried out a series of educational workshops for elementary school students from Mikołów. During our meetings in Museum in Mikołów children learned about Silesian legends and folk characters associated with them, such as Bebok, Jaroszek, Południca, Utopek and Zmora. Participants learned that Bebok was a small, shaggy creature, Południca could be met in a field at high noon, and how to tame Jaroszek.
